Staff Accountant - Contract-to-Hire

Pay Range: $65,000 - $83,000 annually
Location: 100% Onsite
Start Date: Immediate

We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to support full-cycle accounting operations within a high-volume environment managing a large portfolio of government contracts. This role requires strong month-end close experience, reconciliations expertise, and solid AR capabilities. The ideal candidate has worked with major ERP systems and brings experience from transportation, waste management, or similar industries.

This is a contract-to-hire position with long-term potential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full-cycle accounting, including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
  • Prepare and analyze balance sheet reconciliations
  • Manage Accounts Receivable: billing, collections, cash application, and aging reports
  • Support compliance and accounting requirements for government contracts
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and supporting documentation
  • Respond to audit requests and assist with audit preparation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, contracts, procurement)
  • Utilize a major ERP system (SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, NetSuite, etc.) to process transactions and maintain reporting
  • Support process improvements and assist with ad-hoc accounting projects

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years of accounting experience
  • Demonstrated experience in full-cycle accounting
  • Prior work with government contracts, publicworks, transportation, fleet management ++
  • Proficiency with a major ERP system
  • Solid understanding of GAAP
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas)
  • High attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work 100% onsite (no remote or hybrid options)
